GA Radiation Therapy Center Addition and Renovation
This project involved renovating and incorporating additions to the existing Annex building at GA Radiation Therapy Center. The purpose of the project was to upgrade the area of work to Ambulatory Healthcare requirements so that it could be used to anesthetize patients (for calming). The program included a new Linear Accelerator (Linac) Room, High Dose Radiation (HDR) room, Prep/Recovery Suite, renovated CT Room, and several support spaces. The Linac and HDR rooms were the most complex spaces to design because both required shielded walls to protect patients and staff from radiation exposure from the equipment. For the Linac, the shielding requirement was 2′-0″ of concrete and 4 1/2″ of lead bricks. HDR required 2″ of lead bricks.
